Posted by sandip | Under friday poem, in mind Friday Jan 21, 2011

[ Last year I visited North Karnaka flood affected districts, it was more of a man-made flood, excess water was released from the nearby dam, one certain night, water came to the neightbourhood as a nightmare ... i went there, i saw the devasatation caused by the human made calamity. This poem is a reflection of that. I have made a documentary on the same sometime back. ]

wide angle and latenight dreams

Posted by sandip | Under in mind Tuesday Jan 11, 2011

i wrote about a telephoto lens in my previous post and then i realized i must write about the wide-angle and also the new format which is going rule the new era of photography… once i asked David Alan Harvey after seeing one of his photograph and i came to know about this 16:9 format … He was kind enough to explain me about this new format … i started venturing into my camera setting and surprising found the same in my point and shoot which i use as a backup of my SLR … i started using it and there is no look back after this … “i am loving it” totally … sometime back i was speaking to Suyog and discussing about this new format too …

this wide panoramic format is fantastic and does justice for the photograph as well… i have my own story around it …

last year i went to gurgaon for some work and stayed there for a day … the hotel which was provided to me for that was just like another service apartment for me… i saw them in hyderabad last time i went there… i think now a days these kind of guest house or service apartments are more and more emerging due to the hotel fares … however the ambiance was not so good there at all… not enough light in the reception area, not enough space for breathing … i did not mind much as i had to stay only the night over there… in other way i quite liked the place because of its shadow and light play … there was a huge Ganesh idol kept at the start of the stairs … just as much light as to illuminate the place … it was kind of dramatic i would say … i was waiting for the right time and right moment …

i had to wake up early and check out from that hotel next day … it was 4:30 AM early morning … there was not enough light outside so that i can call it dusk , however electrical poles and the neon lights were still glowing and giving me a kind of different mood and feel…

everybody were sleeping … i found this little boy, tired working,  just had the late night nap  sitting on the chair … he was however alert if some room service call comes in … he was waiting for any guest to call him up … and waiting …and waiting and finally felt sleep … he might be dreaming of having his own house etc etc … but who knows … i found this photograph eternal and timeless … in front of Lord Ganesh …. and small boy dreaming after got tired …a scene of hope and belief ….
