Posted by sandip | Under Travel, off road Friday Dec 4, 2009

… don’t think that it is all about rock music, it is actually about rock-music … boulders after boulders, various shapes, various styles, various orientation clearly made the music out of it … and where else … it is hampi… 415 km from bangalore … nearly an overnight journey … it is not just 10-12 hours distance … hampi is a way back to 500 years …

[ Boulders at hemakuta hills, near hampi bazar ]

it was just like entering into a forbidden city in a super technical hollywood movie … and believe me, it is not a movie, it is so real …

i was always wondering why there is so much talk about hampi … always, till i reached there … and after reaching there it is just an apprehension to what i have seen… data says, it is the second largest world heritage site after angkorwat in combodia … it is the as vast as 24 sq km situated at the bank of tungabhadra river …

[ The famous stone charriot at Vittala temple ]

i recollected my 9th standard history book … and looked like everything i read then was just coming true in front of my eyes … at hampi … busy market places, sacred tanks, virupaksha temple, vittala temple, sacred centre, royal centre, a side by side culture and religion … hinduism, jainism, muslims etc … a true harmony and a unity in diversity …

[ Lotus Mahal, an example of indo-muslim architecture ]

it was the day just before full moon … at night the landscape was looking amazingly different, the ruined temple structures, tanks, bazaars all were seemed to be terrestrial … i had a feel that, i went back to 500 yrs … i was clearly able to see the bazaars full of actions, full of noise, … people from the country side were transacting for gold, gems, diamonds and so on …

i will write a travelogue soon on hampi …
